Experimental Studies on the Oxygen Poisoning

Abstract
Experimental studies were designed to observe the possible protective potentials of ammonium chloride to oxygen toxicity.
The tolerance to oxygen poisoning was measured by the half lethal time, the onset of the convulsion & changes in organ weightbody weight ratio of a albino rats exposed to hyperbaric oxygen environment.
The animals were exposed to 5 ATA 02 for 4 hours of observation.
The following findings were obtained.
1. The ammonium chloride administered group showed high tolerance to oxygen poisoning, especially with dose more the 400mg/kg.
2. Ammonium chloride was quite beneficial to CNS-Type 02 poisoning, but not to Lorrain Smith effect.
3. Further study on the combination of protective agents beneficial to lung-type oxygen poisoning with protectants to CNS-type 02 poisoning seems to be preferable research subject.
